Hey everyone! I finally got to play Fatal Frame as my second horror game for this horror season. Getting to play it on the PS2 was absolutely amazing. Now, after beating it, I figured I would share my thoughts with you all.
Our first horror game was Silent Hill f , it was a fun game but felt very underwhelming at times. Fatal Frame on the other hand, gave me that thrill I have been craving from a horror game.
The Story and Atmosphere
I want to get started by talking quickly about the characters. So, our protagonist is named Miku, and basically, she goes to this haunted mansion in order to find her brother that went missing.
From the moment this game started, I was captivated by the atmosphere of it. It’s so unsettling in such a good way.
One thing I often heard, was how scary this game is. I can say that if I wasn’t streaming it, I definitely would’ve been terrified.
The story is divided in four days. Over those days, Miku has to face different challenges, different puzzles, and of course, she has to also face ghosts that only get creepier, such as the ghost that has no eyes, and also those monks that are completely headless.
Another thing I really liked about this game, like I said earlier, was the little noises that you hear. The game does it so well where it makes you feel comfortable. And when you least expect it, something just pops out. And that’s one thing I just love about these old games. Newer games just don’t hit the same.
Graphics and Fear Factors
I really enjoyed those very old-day PS2 graphics, they just do something to me when it comes to horror games. I think they add so much creepiness to the game and it makes it that much more unsettling.
The ghosts were absolutely terrifying. After looking at some of the shots I took of them, I can just say that they’re nightmare fuels.
I liked the atmosphere of the mansion. The camera angles added to the fear factor and as a lover of the old Resident Evil games, I simply appreciated them.
This games is very atmospheric and immersive. It simply knows how to capture your attention, and I found that to be really nice. From the creaking of the woods when you walk around with Miku, to the quietness of some of the rooms. They just di so well with the atmosphere.
Game Lenght and Replay
Now to talk about the game length. This game was a pretty lengthy game. My first save was about 11 hours. Now, when I had to replay the game again because unfortunately, I accidentally soft-locked myself in a room with two ghosts and I had no healing items. It was really chaotic. When the time came to replay this game, I beat it under 8 hours and I simply didn’t see the time go by while playing this. It was so entertaining.
Final Verdict
Overall, Fatal Frame was a really enjoyable game, a lot scarier than Silent Hill F was.
For my rating of this game, I can say it’s a 10 out of 10. It was a really good game. I’ve got nothing bad to say about it.
Maybe my only issue with it was that sometimes when fighting certain ghosts that are faster than Miku, I wish she would have run a little faster, but even that, that’s not too much of an issue. This game is not an action game by any means, so I totally understand. Besides, it adds even more stress to you as the player because you want to escape from these things.
This basically concludes my review of Fatal Frame. I look forward to starting Fatal Frame 2!
Let me know down in the comments, what are your thoughts on this game? How did you like it when you played it? Or if you’ve played it at all.
